The Air Mail Game

I read a blog post tonight about silly family games that are unique to your family, either made up or remembered from childhood, and I decided I'd better write in my own blog about something we've made up in our own family, so our kids don't forget that we (okay, Jonathan) used to do this.

Maggie and Evan LOVE to be “air mailed” to bed by Jonathan. It can take a considerable amount of time, (and Jonathan gets completely exhausted) so they only get this occasionally. First he picks up the kids and lays them down on the couch, stuffing them in imaginary boxes for mailing. Then he picks up the “tape” and tapes them shut. Next he writes the mailing address (their beds) on the packages. All the while the kids are laughing and screaming as they get tickled with the “marker”. Then he picks them up and packs them into his “mail truck” (the other couch). A very bumpy ride to the post office ensues, and then they are plucked off and shipped up the ramp into the “airplane”. The kids have to be “flown” separately(their favorite part) around the house, as many times as Jonathan’s back can handle, before they reach their final destination and get trucked up the stairs to be unpacked (laughing, breathless) in their beds. Maggie will soon be too big for this, but then it will be Lucie's turn.

Speaking of Maggie, I will write soon about her birthday and baptism!
